
His Majesty the King Graces the Opening Ceremony of the Third Session, Fourth Parliament
His Majesty the King graced the Opening Ceremony of the Third Session of the Fourth Parliament, the Members of the Royal Family also attended the session. The ceremony was witnessed by senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, business leaders, educators, students, and local government representatives.
His Majesty was received with a traditional Chipdrel procession led by the Speaker, the Chairperson, the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, Cabinet Ministers, and Members of Parliament.
In his opening address, the Speaker expressed deepest gratitude to His Majesty for his unwavering leadership and for gracing the Opening Ceremony. He highlighted His Majesty’s visionary role in Bhutan’s progress, including significant diplomatic engagements and the continued guidance in preserving Bhutan’s sovereignty and cultural values.
The Speaker reflected on the recent state visit of Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand, emphasizing the sacred presentation of a holy relic and the strengthened spiritual and diplomatic ties between the two Kingdoms. He also extended appreciation for the religious Special Royal Project and granting of Royal Edict for the construction of eight religious monuments in the Gelephu Mindfulness City.
Acknowledging His Majesty's global humanitarian vision, the Speaker lauded Bhutan’s swift response to the earthquake in Myanmar, led under His Majesty’s guidance. He also highlighted the continued impact of the De-Suung Programme and the recently initiated National Service Programme in empowering Bhutanese youth.
The Parliament offered prayers and wishes on on the forthcoming 70th Birth Anniversaries of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, His Holiness the Je Khenpo, and Her Majesty Gyalyum Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, commending their enduring service and spiritual contributions to the nation.
The Speaker expressed gratitude to His Holiness the Je Khenpo, all monastic leaders, and the Prime Minister for fostering national and international cooperation and ensuring the country’s continued development.
He concluded by outlining the legislative agenda for the session and offered prayers for the successful conduct of the session and the long lives of Their Majesties and His Holiness.
The Third Session of the Fourth Parliament is scheduled to be held from 23 May to 3 July 2025.
