Re-deliberation on the UNTOC and Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children (TIP Protocol)

The National Assembly of Bhutan today deliberated on the National Council’s recommendations on United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children (TIP Protocol).

The Chairperson of the Human Rights and Foreign Relations Committee, Hon’ble Rinzin Jamtsho submitted that the recommendations from the National Council were all on clerical changes and don’t impact the meaning of the clauses. He further submitted that the reservations on Article 16.5 (a) and Article 35.3 of the UNTOC and Article 15.3 of the TIP Protocol were also supported by the National Council.  

The House voted on the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children (TIP Protocol) with 100% Yes Votes from 42 Members present and voting.
