
Prime Minister Presents the Annual State of the Nation Report to the Parliament-DZ
Lyonchen Dr. Lotay Tshering presented the fifth State of the Nation Report to the Parliament coinciding with the 12th Anniversary of the Royal Wedding today.
In his final State of the Nation Report, Prime Minister Dr. Lotay Tshering expressed his gratitude to His Majesty The King and Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen, for their guidance and blessings over the past five years. The report reflects on the challenges faced, particularly during the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, and the nation's successful response under the leadership of His Majesty The King.
The report emphasized the importance of peace and tranquility in the nation and acknowledged the need to sustain these for future generations. The Price Minister highlighted the progress made in various sectors, including the De-Suung Skilling Program and Bhutan's active participation in UN Peacekeeping missions, attributing these achievements to the visionary initiatives of His Majesty The King
Lyonchen expressed profound gratitude for the significant contributions and achievements of various sectors in Bhutanese society. He acknowledged the efforts of the Royal Family, government officials, security forces, and development partners. He also highlighted accomplishments in healthcare, mental health, education, and spirituality, emphasizing the unity and resilience of the Bhutanese people.
It was reported that the first year focused on foundational changes in various sectors, addressing issues such as income disparity and political divides. The second year was marked by the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to nationwide lockdowns and significant efforts to save lives and provide essential services. The third year saw Bhutan's response to the pandemic, including successful vaccination drives and efforts to adapt to the new normal.
The government undertook various reforms and initiatives in the fourth year, emphasizing national transformation. These initiatives included reforms in the mining sector, changes in the civil service system, and efforts to enhance accountability and productivity.
The Government prioritized national interests by discontinuing certain quotas and posts, focusing on economic stability amid COVID-19 challenges. A sum of Nu. 386 billion was spent in the 12th FYP, emphasizing value addition, human-wildlife conflict resolution, and creating employment opportunities domestically. Key initiatives included the National Credit Guarantee Scheme, generating 1,600 jobs, and streamlining services through the GovBiz Center.
Healthcare saw an expansion in haemodialysis and Bhutan's first Heart Centre was inaugurated, enhancing cardiac care. The government aimed for an economically prosperous nation rooted in Gross National Happiness, focusing on private sector involvement and reducing its role in economic activities.
