Outgoing UNICEF Representative calls on the Hon’ble Speaker

The outgoing UNICEF Bhutan Representative Dr. Will Parks called on the Hon’ble Speaker yesterday.

The Representative thanked the Hon’ble Speaker for the warm hospitality and expressed his bittersweet feeling on coming to the end of his tenure as the UNICEF Bhutan Representative. He commended the Speaker’s support to the children of Bhutan and reassured the continuous support of UNICEF to Bhutan.

Hon’ble Speaker thanked Dr. Will Parks for actively engaging in supporting the children of Bhutan during his tenure and also for the enormous support of UNICEF during the battle against the global pandemic in securing vaccines for the Bhutanese people and also assisting Bhutan in improving health and sanitation.

They also noted issues of the youths in Bhutan and the way forward including the National Youth Policy, the transition between school and the job market, and the requirement of social skills among many others.

UNICEF’s work in Bhutan started in 1974 with support to the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation program which over time expanded to improve the lives of children, youth and women in other key programmatic areas.
