National Assembly Secretariat sensitizes youths on parliamentary procedures
In an unprecedented initiative, the National Assembly Secretariat is spearheading a sensitization program aimed at educating the nation's youth about the Parliament and its legislative procedure. This comprehensive program, running from 28 August to 12 September 2023, is focused on the students of Higher Secondary Schools and college students.
Understanding Parliament's history, structure, functioning and legislative procedure is deemed important for our youth as they would sooner or later be exercising their responsibilities and have a well-rounded comprehension of the parliamentary processes. It is also expected that grooming these young minds would make them ambassadors for the Parliament to enhance visibility and outreach.
Highlighting the program's success so far, the team from the Secretariat has engaged with students from multiple institutions, including Taktse College of Language and Culture Studies in Trongsa, Technical Training Institute in Bumthang, and several Higher Secondary Schools in Mongar, Lhuntse, Trashi Yangtse and Pemagatshel. The team will further visit Jigme Namgyel Engineering College in Deothang in the following days.
The Secretariat plans to reach out to all targeted schools and colleges in later days.
Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and highly receptive amongst students. Each session concluded with a productive Q&A segment with clarifications being sought on the Role of the Speaker, Code of Conduct of the Members of Parliament, Requirement of Work Experience for Members, Electoral pledges and Postal Ballots to highlight a few.
The program is conducted in collaboration with Project Nyamdrel.
