National Assembly ratifies the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Charter

The Minister for Foreign Relations and External Trade (MoFAET) who is the member in-charge of the Bill moved the motion to adopt the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) today. The House unanimously ratified the BIMSTEC Charter with all the 44 members present and voting, voted in favour of the Charter.

The Charter establishes clear provision on the legal and institutional framework for BIMSTEC, and outlines how BIMSTEC as an intergovernmental regional organization would function.  The Charter will be further transmitted to the National Council for deliberation.
