
His Majesty the King graced the Opening Ceremony of the Parliament
His Majesty the King graced the Opening Ceremony of the Tenth Session of the Parliament. The opening ceremony was also attended by the Members of the Royal Family, senior government officials, former government officials, diplomats and students from various institutions.
His Majesty the King was received in a grand traditional Chhipdrel procession attended by the Speaker, the Chairperson, the Prime Minister, the Opposition leader, the Cabinet Ministers and Members of the Parliament.
The Speaker, in his opening address, expressed gratitude to His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo for gracing the opening ceremony. On behalf of the Parliament, he extended gratitude and happiness on the birth of Her Royal Highness the Princess and offered prayers for the well-being of Her Royal Highness the Princess.
The Speaker thanked His Majesty for the visits to Japan and the United States meeting with global business leaders in preparation for Bhutan’s forthcoming economic development endeavors.
He expressed appreciation to His Holiness the Je Khenpo and Zhung Dratshang for administering Buddha Amitabha Wang and for reinstating the traditional practice of Yojay as commemoration of the birth of the Princess. He also expressed his gratitude to His Holiness the Je Khenpo for granting a sum of 10 million ngultrum for the benefit of aged monks living in old age care homes. His Holiness the Jekhenpo also transferred the land offered to him to the Gaylegphug Thromde for the cultivation of medicinal plants.
The Speaker also highlighted the agenda for the session and concluded his opening speech with prayers for the successful outcome of the Session.
