
His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo graces the Concluding Ceremony of the Tenth Session of the Third Parliament
His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo graced the closing ceremony of the 10th Session of the Third Parliament today. Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen, Members of the Royal Family, distinguished government officials, retired executives, foreign dignitaries and students also attended the ceremony.
The Prime Minister on behalf of the Government, the Chairperson on behalf of the National Council and the Leader of the Opposition on behalf of the Opposition Party expressed their gratitudes to His Majesty the King for His Majesty’s benevolent guidance and farsighted leadership.
The Speaker of the National Assembly welcomed and expressed his gratitude to His Majesty for the continued support and guidance on behalf of the House and the people of Bhutan.
The Speaker, in his concluding submission, expressed his gratitude for His Majesty’s extensive visit of the country to address the challenges faced by the populace in efforts to elevate their standard of living, and significantly contributing to self-sufficiency and independence through the noble initiative of granting of land and citizenships. He also conveyed genuine appreciation to His Majesty for his involvement in spiritual affairs, including the recent consecration of the Druk Mi-gyur Dechen Dzong in Pemagatshel.
He offered earnest prayers for the success of both the "Gyalsung - National Service" initiative, for its potential to not only fortify our nation but also empower youth with indispensable life skills and technical expertise, and the Gelephu City Project, anticipating positive community and regional development.
The Speaker also extended his gratitude to His Holiness the Je Khenpo and all members of the Zhung Dratshang for their unwavering commitment to performing rituals for the well-being of the world, with particular emphasis on the welfare of our nation and its people, especially amidst the pandemic.
On behalf of the Parliament, the Speaker congratulated the Bhutanese peacekeeping military contingent serving in the Central African Republic for being honored with the UN Peace Medal in recognition of their unwavering service and substantial contribution to peace and harmony.
Tshogpon Wangchuk Namgyel then presented the legislative achievements before the House on the conduct of the ten sessions. A total of 38 legislations were passed or amended, and 13 International Instruments were adopted by the National Assembly and the Parliament. Additionally, motions and question hours were scheduled in accordance with the House's Rule of Procedure.
“I wish to extend my gratitude to His Excellency the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition Party, the Members of the National Assembly, the Chairperson(s) and Members of the National Council, of both immediate past and the current, for their steadfast support and cooperation in the successful conduct of the ten sessions of the Third Parliament,” said the Speaker.
The Speaker also expressed his gratitude to everyone involved for the successful conduct of the 10th Session of the Third Parliament.
The ceremony concluded with an offering of Tashi Moenlam and Zhabten to His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo by the Members of Parliament led by Zhung Dratshang.
