The Legislative Committee, the Human Rights & Foreign Relations Committee, and the Social and Cultural Committee of the National Assembly held a joint consultation meeting with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) at the Gyelyong Tshogkhang 0n 25 April 2025.
The meeting was held in response to a formal request from the UNFPA Bhutan Country Office, which expressed appreciation for the ongoing engagement with Members of Parliament and sought further dialogue on issues related to the rights and protection of women and girls in Bhutan.
The consultation focused on reviewing selected provisions of the Penal Code of Bhutan, 2004, Penal Code (Amendment) Act of Bhutan 2011, and Penal Code (Amendment) Act of Bhutan 2021 relevant to women and girls. UNFPA representatives shared their views and recommendations, reaffirming their commitment to supporting Bhutanโ€™s efforts in strengthening legal protections and promoting gender equality.
The UNFPA also acknowledged the positive collaboration with Parliament and emphasized the importance of continued partnership in advancing inclusive development and legal reform aligned with national and international goals.

The meeting reflects the ongoing efforts by Parliament to engage with stakeholders and development partners to ensure informed, inclusive, and well-considered legislative processes.
