The Women, Children and Youth Committee (WCYC) holds virtual consultation with the Dzongdags of various Dzongkhags
On October 24, 2024, the Women, Children and Youth Committee (WCYC) convened a virtual consultative meeting with Dzongdags and representatives from six Dzongkhags: Thimphu, Chukha, Zhemgang, Dagana, Tsirang, and Bumthang at the Ga-Kyid Khangzang, National Assembly. The focus of the meeting was to understand the crime situation in the Dzongkhags and address strategies for making Bhutan a crime-free society.
Participants shared insights on the current crime rates in their respective Dzongkhags, which included cases such as sexual offenses, domestic violence, and drug-related incidents, as well as the efforts being made to mitigate these issues. A key concern highlighted was the vulnerability of young adolescents, prompting extensive awareness campaigns in schools. Collaborations with organizations such as RENEW, the Royal Bhutan Police, and religious bodies have been instrumental in these initiatives.
Several potential solutions were also suggested such as fostering social cohesion, monitoring social media, enhancing collaboration among all stakeholders, stricter rules on alcohol sale, and establishing community policing.
