
The Officials from Japan International Cooperation Agency(JICA) meets with the Economic and Finance Committee of National Assembly of Bhutan
On February 18, 2025, the officials from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) met with Bhutan’s Economic and Finance Committee (EFC) at the Ga-Kyid Khangzang. The meeting was part of JICA’s Macroeconomic Review Mission, aimed at assessing Bhutan's economic situation and supporting its development.
JICA officials, Mr. TSUJI Kensuke and Dr. ONO Saori, discussed various key topics with the EFC members. They provided insights into recent economic trends, highlighting a positive outlook for hydropower projects, but slow recovery in tourism.
The EFC shared the key risks facing Bhutan’s economy, including external economic shocks and fiscal challenges. They reviewed the government’s FY 2023/2024 budget, expressing the need for better fiscal balance. The impact of state-owned enterprises on government finances was also discussed with gradual engagement of the private sector.
The JICA officials thanked the members of the Economic and Finance Committee for their time and valuable insights. The meeting concluded with a strong commitment to ongoing collaboration and JICA’s continued support and cooperation for Bhutan’s long term socio-economic development.
