๏ปฟOn 22 May 2024, the EFC held a consultation meeting with the Department of Agriculture Marketing & Co-operatives(DAMC), Bhutan Food and Drug Authority (BFDA), and the Department of Trade, MoICE at  the Lhen-Zom Khangzang of the National Assembly.

The stakeholders provided a status of trading, issues and challenges  faced in the trading chain and trade facilitation preparedness by each agency in addressing the critical issues on agricultural trading. 

During the session, the  EFC Members shared their observations and feedback gathered from stakeholders and probed further the relevant agencies to gain comprehensive insights on the challenges and opportunities. Besides, the members also assessed the adequacy and prioritization of resource allocation both within and among the stakeholders to ensure seamless facilitation of trade in the 13th FYP and beyond. Issues on certification, quality control, sanitary and phytosanitary issues, harmonization of standards, trade routes, integrated trade facilitation center, plant quarantine information system, market information etc. were deliberated in detail. Amongst many cash crops, issues on key cash crops: potato, ginger, cardamom, oranges, apple, betel nut, cabbage, and carrot were examined in depth. 

The participants were advised to submit the prioritized plan with budget requirements in order to provide the needed holistic support in enhancing  the trading and achieving the aspired economic goal of the Developed Nation.
