Special Committee holds consultative meeting with the National Land Commission (NLCS) and Department of Agriculture (DoA) on land related issues
The Special Committee of the National Assembly held consultative meetings with the National Land Commission Secretariat (NLCS) and the Department of Agriculture (DoA) to discuss various land-related issues. Both agencies made presentations highlighting critical areas for reform and improvement.
During the consultation meeting, the NLCS emphasized the importance of addressing land ownership disputes, enhancing land tenure security, and streamlining land administration processes to ensure efficient and fair management of land resources. The DoA underscored the need for sustainable agricultural practices and strategic land-use planning to bolster food security and optimize land use.
Following these consultations, the Special Committee plans to engage further with key stakeholders, including local communities and landowners, to collect additional insights and recommendations. These inputs will contribute to a comprehensive report the Committee is preparing for the National Assembly. The findings are expected to influence future policies and initiatives designed to improve land governance and promote sustainable, equitable land management for the benefit of all citizens.
The Special Committee formed on 21 October 2024 under the Speaker’s directive, is chaired by the Leader of the Opposition and includes five other members representing both the ruling and opposition parties. The committee's mandate is to carry out thorough review and propose recommendations to address land-related challenges in support of a more robust and effective governance framework.
