Research Assistants Showcase Parliamentary Research Skills

On September 6, 2024, the first group of  Assistant Research Officers (AROs) and Research Assistants (RAs) from both the National Assembly and the National Council presented their research findings to the Hon'ble Members of Parliament at the Lhen-Zom Khangzang National Assembly. The Hon’ble Speaker,  Hon’ble Chairperson of the National Council, Hon’ble Leader of the Opposition, and members of Parliament from both the Houses were in attendance.

The presentation marked the culmination of a four-day Parliamentary Research training held in August 2024 in Paro. Supported by the European Union under Project ‘Nyamdrel II and implemented by International IDEA, the training was conducted to develop the research skills and enhance the communication skills of the AROs and the RAs to support the Parliamentarians in effectively carrying out their mandates.

During the event, seven groups of participants showcased their research on diverse topics such as Low Fertility Rates, Women’s Participation in Politics, High Vehicle Taxes, City Bus Accessibility, Non-Communicable Diseases, and the impact of cut-off points on Classes 10 and 12. Each presentation demonstrated the participants’ improved research skills and analytical abilities.

The Members commended the participants for their efforts and encouraged them to further enhance their research capabilities. The program concluded with the awarding of certificates to the participants by the Hon’ble Speaker.
