In the Question Hour Session today, the Ministers in Group A were asked a total of four questions for oral responses and one question for written response. Two questions were asked to the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport (MoIT), one each to the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Employment (MoICE) and Minister for Energy and Natural Resources (MoENR). One question for written response was submitted to the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport (MoIT).


The Minister for Industry, Commerce and Employment (MoICE) was questioned on the initiatives being taken by the Ministry and the Department of Tourism to address the shortage of tour guides, drivers, and vehicles. The Minister was also questioned on the new tourism products in Tsirang Dzongkhag to attract more tourists in the Dzongkhag.

In response, the MoICE Minister acknowledged the importance of  tourism to  the country's economy while  noting  the challenges imposed due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges, the Minister reported significant progress, with 16,000 tourists visiting in the past five months - a notable increase compared to the previous year. He informed that nearly Nu.2 billion has been allocated for tourism development, including ecotourism initiatives in the five eastern regions. The government plans to introduce ten development activities aimed at benefiting the entire nation through tourism, promoting employment opportunities via open bookings for tourists.

The Minister for Infrastructure and Transport (MoIT) responded to questions about the timeline for completion of the double-lane widening of the Samtse-Haa Secondary National Highway. The Minister underscored the project's importance in supporting local agriculture and enhancing inter-dzongkhag trade. The Minister also discussed concerns about the impact of modern farming practices on land compensation and potential changes to the road right-of-way requirement.The Samtse-Haa Secondary National Highway project is expected to be completed by 2026-2027 and challenges related to compensation and land ownership issues will also be addressed by the government.
