National Assembly conducts Reflective Workshop on His Majesty’s 117th National Day Address
The National Assembly of Bhutan initiated a transformative journey by conducting its first-ever reflective workshop on His Majesty’s 117th National Day Address from January 10–11, 2024, in Paro. The workshop aimed to align the Assembly’s legislative, oversight, and representative roles with His Majesty’s vision for economic transformation, governance reform, and democratic strengthening infused with meritocracy. The initiative seeks to create a people-centric approach by fostering collaboration among the three branches of government, that enhances public service delivery and upholds democratic principles.
Key discussions centered on economic laws, civil service reforms, and governance enhancement to align with the aspirations of the Diamond Strategy. Recommendations included reviewing laws to attract investment, addressing the impact of past reforms on 46 Acts, and strengthening legislative scrutiny tools. Participants also emphasized the need to harmonize governance with emerging challenges and formulate an actionable roadmap to realize His Majesty’s vision. The National Assembly will continue to further work on these strategies and ensure the success of Bhutan’s transformation journey.
