Five Day Workshop on Strengthening Parliamentary Budget Scrutiny concludes

A five-day workshop on Strengthening Parliamentary Budget Scrutiny and its process, held at the Namgay Heritage Hotel in Thimphu, concluded today. The workshop, which commenced on March 31, 2025, was conducted for Members of the Public Accounts Committee, the Economic and Finance Committee (National Assembly), and the Economic Affairs Committee (National Council).

The workshop was facilitated by Ms. Shennia Spillane, Committee Secretary and Dr. Ashley Clements, Inquiry Secretary, from the Australian Federal Parliament. Key topics included the budgetary process in Bhutan- presented by the Ministry of Finance, international practices, budget scrutiny in the Australian Parliament, and the theoretical and practical aspects of parliamentary oversight. A session on “Gender-Sensitive Budget Scrutiny – Why It Is Important and How to Do It” was also conducted online by Ms. Hanna Jonhanson, Senior Gender Advisor at INTER PARES.

The workshop was organized with support from the Nyamdrel II: Support to Parliament and CSOs project, implemented by International IDEA and funded by the European Union.
