The Economic and Finance Committee (EFC) of the National Assembly is set to conduct a Public Hearing on May 16, 2025, to review the implementation of the Economic Stimulus Program (ESP). The main objectives of the hearing are to:
1. Update the public on the progress, issues and challenges of the ESP on the ground, and
2. Evaluate the program's impact in reviving the economy.
3. Determine resolutions on way forward for improving efficiency and impact of the ESP in revival of the economy
In preparation for the hearing, Member of Radhi - Sakteng constituency and Member of Bjiโ€“Katsho-Uesu constituency have begun consultations in the western dzongkhags from Haa Dzongkhag today. The visits, scheduled from April 14 to 19, 2025, include Haa, Paro, Chhukha, Thimphu, Punakha, and Gasa Dzongkhags.
These consultations are aimed at identifying the ground issues, challenges and impact of the ESP by listening to Dzongkhag Administration, LG leaders, banks, applicants and beneficiaries and other relevant stakeholders as well as by making site visits to project areas.
Besides consultation, the team visited the Commercial Rainbow Trout Farm (CRTF) in Haa and Private Fishery Farm, both recipient of support under the ESP. The team also scheduled to visit the Farm Machinery Corporation Limited (FMCL) in Paro, another recipient of the ESP support. The team will also make visits to key project areas in other Dzongkhags supported by the ESP.
The Committee stressed the importance of open dialogue in shaping inclusive and responsive policies. Insights gathered from these visits will help inform national policy decisions, reflecting the National Assemblyโ€™s commitment to accountability, transparency, and balanced economic development.
