A three-day Workshop on Media Engagement and Digital tools held in Paro Grand from 14-16 April 2025 successfully concluded. Honโ€™ble Speaker, Honโ€™ble Leader of the Opposition, Members of the National Assembly and secretariat staff from both the Houses attended the workshop.
The three days workshop included discussion on media engagement skills, addressing misinformation, and improving transparency in public communication. Particular focus was placed on navigating Bhutanโ€™s evolving media landscape and responsible use of AI.
In his concluding remarks, the Honโ€™ble Speaker highlighted the importance of embracing digital tools, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), in line with Bhutanโ€™s vision of a knowledge-based society and the priorities outlined in the 13th Five Year Plan.
He emphasized that the workshop had shed light on the potential of technologies like AI in enhancing governance, research, policy formulation, and communication. โ€œAs Members of Parliament, we must lead by example by adopting these technologies in our day-to-day work,โ€ he said.
The Honโ€™ble Speaker further noted that the Parliament need not always rely on external experts. โ€œWith tools like AI at our fingertips, we can build in-house capacity to draft policy papers, conduct research, and prepare committee reports. If we integrate such tools into our regular workflow, they can become our most valuable support system.โ€
He commended the relevance of the training and encouraged both Members and Secretariat staff to continue applying the skills gained. โ€œThis workshop has been particularly useful for enhancing the capacity of both the Committees and the Secretariat. I urge the Secretariat staff to actively implement the knowledge acquired and to remain engaged in the learning process moving forward.โ€
The workshop was facilitated by the team from Nyingnor Data and Mr. Needrup Zangpo, former Executive Director of the Bhutan Media Foundation. Organized under the โ€œNyamdrel II โ€“ Support to CSOs and Parliament of Bhutanโ€ project, funded by the European Union and implemented by International IDEA, the workshop aims to strengthen the communication capacity of Parliament in line with its Communication Strategy (2022โ€“2025) and Strategic Development Plans.
