The Speaker, accompanied by the Leader of the Opposition, two Members of Parliament from Bomdeling-Jamkhar and Khamdang-Ramjar constituencies, visited Trashiyangtse as part of eastern Dzongkhags tour. They met with sector heads and local government leaders, and business community of the district.
The visit included a tour of the Doksum new town planning site, part of the Khorlongchhu Hydro Power project, a strategic partnership between Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) and Tata Power. The project team briefed the Speaker on its progress, future plans, and alignment with regional development goals. In line with the visit the speaker along with the Leader of the Opposition and members also visited Bomdeling where the people were working on the construction of the Chain-Link fencing.
The Speaker in his address emphasized His Majestyโs vision for strengthening democracy, focusing on meritocracy, decentralization, and improved service delivery. He also highlighted the government's initiatives to boost tourism in the east, including the opening of the Darranga integrated check post. The Speaker encouraged communities to align with the national vision for transformation.
In meetings with local leaders and communities in Trashiyangtse, the public and Local Leaders raised issues such as need for flood protection wall , school upgrades, and road development in Terphel Lam. Gups raised issues related to the Economic Stimulus Plan (ESP), water shortages, road widening, and the need to combine phases I and II of the SDP for smoother project execution. The discussions also included the Dzongkhag budget, challenges, and future priorities.
The visit underscored the importance of national and local collaboration to advance both the regionโs development and the broader national goals.
