Visitors must comply with the following instructions:

• Visitors will have to go through security screening and vehicle checks to enter the Parliament complex. Please arrive at least 20 minutes earlier to avoid delays.

• Visitors will be required to present identification (ID card or passport) for verification and issue of an (admission) pass, which must be returned when leaving.

• Visitors should be dressed formally. No admission will be granted to anyone not appropriately dressed.

• Visitors are to safekeep their belongings and electronic devices at the security check.

• Photography is not allowed inside parliament premises.

Public entrance parking

Tours of National Assembly hall - Non sitting day – Duration one hour

Timings: Monday to Friday: 10 am and 2:30 pm

Group size – 20.

Attire - National dress for Bhutanese and formal attire for other visitors

Programme brief - This tour will give visitors a first-hand feel of the National Assembly, the main legislative body of Bhutan’s Parliament. Visitors will get an opportunity to visit the debating chamber where members discuss and debate legislation, the committee and plenary rooms and the offices of the Speaker and secretary general.

At the end of the tour visitors can also meet and interact with an MP, if available.

During the tour visitors will

• Visit main chamber room and learn of seating arrangements – His Majesty, Speaker, Dy Speaker, government and Opposition, Hansard seating, entry and exit doors

• Learn about electronic voting system and how voting is done

• Learn about the etiquette in the chamber room

• Seating gallery for visitors, press gallery

• Visit a committee meeting room

• Visit the media and recording room

• Visit the offices of the offices of the Speaker, Opposition leader and the Secretary General

• Visit the Assembly Library

• Meet an MP

All members of group to carry identification – ID card, school ID, passport.

Group to arrive at public entrance door at least 15 minutes ahead of tour programme for security check where admission passes with be issued. Here you will be received by a secretariat staff who will take you on the tour.

The tour will start with a walk around the hall where you will be shown the different entrances to the National Assembly building.

You will then visit the plenary room where the agenda for the upcoming session is finalized and a wrap up meeting of a concluded session is done.

From there you will be shown the different entrances into the debating chamber. You will enter the main debating hall through one of the doors. Here the secretariat staff will explain to you the seating arrangement, the podiums, the tables used to record Hansard transcripts, and other features in the hall.

You will then visit the offices of the Speaker and the secretary general. The tour will then move upstairs where you will visit the library, the Assembly’s media room, the media gallery and the public gallery from where the proceedings of the National can also be viewed.

In the hallway outside the entrance of the public gallery are photos of past Assembly speakers that go all the way back to the 1950s as well as more recent photographs of Assembly sessions.

This is where the tour ends, and you will go to meet and interact with MPs over tea and snacks in one of the committee rooms. Visitors will be given a brochure of the Assembly that will have information on the institution and how to reach a parliament member.

Meet an MP and interact: For local visitors, particularly students, the guided tour programme could include a meeting and MP. Students could ask the MP questions and learn more about the role and function of MPs in particular and that of Parliament in general.

Visit National Assembly Sitting Day

Attend 'live' proceedings and observe how laws are made and votes are cast. Observe how ministers are questioned by the MPs on actions taken by the government.

After observing the proceedings from the public galleries, a briefing will be provided by secretariat staff.

Visitors can observe parliamentary proceedings beginning from 10 am and admission will depend on the availability of seats in the public gallery. There will be no guided tour of the Parliament House on this programme.
