Mr. Thomas Aeschi, Member of National Council of Switzerland called on the Deputy Speaker and Members of Parliament at the Gyelyong Tshogkhang today. The Deputy Speaker warmly welcomed Mr. Aeschi expressed gratitude for Switzerland's support, particularly in the areas of livestock development,education, human resource enhancement, and collaborative projects focused on capacity building and infrastructure.
During the meeting, Mr. Aeschi highlighted the similarities between Switzerland and Bhutan, both being small, landlocked, mountainous countries with similar values that encourage harmonious relationships. During the meeting, discussion on strengthening bilateral cooperation and relations especially between the Parliaments and possibility of formation of parliamentary friendship group was discussed. Both sides affirmed their commitment to nurturing a stronger partnership for the benefit of their respective countries.
Formal diplomatic relations between Bhutan and Switzerland was established on 16 September 1985.
