The Hon’ble Speaker, accompanied by Hon’ble Kinzang Wangchuck, Member of the National Assembly, met with H.E. Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, to discuss avenues for future collaboration. Their discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, including the establishment of a Parliamentary Friendship Group to foster deeper diplomatic and legislative cooperation.
The meeting centered on deepening parliamentary cooperation, fostering legislative exchanges, and enhancing inter-parliamentary diplomatic engagement between Bhutan and Azerbaijan. Emphasizing the significance of Bhutan’s active participation in the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the Speaker highlighted the nation’s unique governance philosophy, underscoring Gross National Happiness (GNH) as a guiding principle. He also shared insights into Bhutan’s parliamentary structure, cultural values, and unwavering commitment to sustainable development. Both sides reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening inter-parliamentary ties and exploring new avenues for collaboration in regional and global forums such as NAM and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
