Ms. Paola Pampaloni, Deputy Managing Director for Asia and the Pacific of the European External Action Service (EEAS), called on the Speaker today.
The Speaker extended a warm welcome to Ms. Pampaloni and the delegation, and expressed appreciation for the European Unionโ€™s continued support in strengthening parliamentary capacity in Bhutan. He particularly acknowledged the EUโ€™s capacity-building efforts under the โ€˜Nyamdrel IIโ€™ project, implemented by International IDEA, which supports both Members of Parliament and Secretariat staff.
EU Ambassador Delphin thanked the Speaker for the warm hospitality and commended the National Assemblyโ€™s inclusive and participatory approach to leadership. The meeting also touched on strengthening the role of civil society organizations (CSOs) through collaboration with Parliament. It was noted that parliamentary committees have consistently engaged CSOs and relevant stakeholders during consultations, and that upcoming public hearings on national issues would provide additional opportunities for CSOs to actively participate and contribute. Awareness and sensitization programs have also been conducted alongside.
The discussions underscored a shared commitment to enhancing democratic governance and parliamentary cooperation, and reaffirmed the strong partnership between Bhutan and the European Union.
Ms. Pampaloni was accompanied by a high-level EU delegation, including H.E. Mr. Hervรฉ Delphin, Ambassador of the European Union to India and Bhutan; Mr. Franck Michel Viault, Minister Counsellor and Head of Cooperation; Ms. Olaya Alvarez Fernandez, Political Officer/Attachรฉ; and Mr. Roshanta Aubrey Lyman, Desk Officer for Nepal and Bhutan at the EEAS headquarters in Brussels. All reactions:
