The Joint Committee of the Parliament for the National Assembly (Amendment) Bill 2024 met today at the Lhen-Zom Khangzang, Gyelyong Tshogkhang to deliberate on the disputed provisions of the National Assembly (Amendment ) Bill 2024.
The Joint Committee was constituted pursuant to Article 13, Section 8 of the Constitution of Bhutan, by Royal Kasho, to deliberate the disputed provisions of the Bill. In accordance with the Legislative Rules of Procedure 2022, the Joint Committee held its first meeting today, during which it elected its Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson. Hon. Member of the National Assembly from Nyisho-Saephu constituency was unanimously elected as Chairperson, and Hon. Member of the National Council from Sarpang Dzongkhag, was elected as Deputy Chairperson.
During the meeting, the Joint Committee deliberated on the disputed provisions of the National Assembly Amendment Bill 2024, and discussed the way forward. The Joint Committee has scheduled a series of stakeholder consultation meetings in the coming days as it prepares for the upcoming Joint Sitting of Parliament, during which the Bill will be formally tabled for deliberation.
