
15th Asian Parliamentary Assembly( APA) Plenary Baku, Azerbaijan update :
The Honorable Speaker of the National Assembly of Bhutan, accompanied by Honorable Kinzang Wangchuck, participated in the 15th Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) Plenary held from February 17-21, 2025, in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan. The prestigious gathering brought together parliamentary leaders from across Asia to strengthen multilateral cooperation through parliamentary diplomacy. During the event, the Honorable Speaker addressed the assembly, emphasizing Bhutan’s unwavering commitment to regional unity, collaboration, and sustainable development.
In his statement, the Honorable Speaker extended gratitude to the Government and people of the Republic of Azerbaijan for their warm hospitality and commended the APA Secretariat for its tireless efforts in organizing the plenary.
The Speaker highlighted His Majesty The King’s visionary leadership, which guides Bhutan’s governance through the unique philosophy of Gross National Happiness (GNH). He emphasized how this approach integrates well-being, sustainability, and mindful governance into regional policies to foster lasting peace and prosperity. He also introduced the Gelephu Mindfulness City, a farsighted initiative envisioned by His Majesty to serve as an international hub for mindfulness and sustainable economic growth. Additionally, the Speaker underscored the vital role of parliamentary diplomacy in tackling pressing global challenges, including climate change, economic instability, and geopolitical tensions.
He concluded his address by pledging Bhutan’s continued support for the APA’s mission and expressing hope for a resilient and harmonious Asia, built on trust, mutual respect, and shared aspirations. The plenary session provided a valuable platform for Bhutan to engage in meaningful discussions and contribute to shaping the future of regional cooperation.
