The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Reviews Performance Audit Report of the State Mining Corporation Ltd.

As a part of its review process, the PAC met with the management and staff of the State Mining Corporation Ltd. (SMCL) in Samtse to discuss the 'Performance Audit Report on the Operations of the SMCL.


This consultative meeting was aimed at understanding the observations, findings and recommendations outlined in the report which will be presented and deliberated in the upcoming winter session of the Parliament. The Royal Audit Authority (RAA) carried out the performance audit of SMCL in 2022 and was tabled in the First Session of the Fourth Parliament.


Over the past few days, the PAC engaged in discussions with key stakeholders across the mining sector. The Committee met with the Project Office of the Chunaikhola Dolomite Mine in Phuntshopelri and conducted an on-site visit to assess operations. Similarly, the PAC consulted with the management of PCAL and visited the Reshore Coal Mine in Dewathang and the Habrang & Majuwa Coal Mines in Phuntshothang. It also met with local government officials in Dewathang Gewog to gather additional perspectives.


The Committee will continue its visit to a few mining sites and conduct hearings with the relevant stakeholders. The PAC remains committed to overseeing and promoting responsible management of national resources for the benefit of the country.
