Hon’ble Speaker of the National Assembly of Bhutan meets with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation Delegation

A 11-member delegation from the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) led by Dr. Carsten Klein, Regional Director for South Asia, called on Tshogpon Lungten Dorji, Hon’ble Speaker of the National Assembly at Gyelyong Tshogkhang today.

The Hon’ble Speaker welcomed the delegation to Bhutan and emphasized the importance of such visits in renewing and strengthening parliamentary ties with Germany, India, and other nations. He briefed the delegation on Bhutan’s parliamentary history, its democratic evolution, and legislative procedures and practices.

Hon. Sujeet Kumar, MP (Rajya Sabha), on behalf of the delegation, expressed gratitude to the Speaker and Deputy Speaker for their warm welcome, hospitality and engaging discussions on Bhutan’s parliamentary practices.

The visit, aimed at promoting Bhutanese-German collaboration, supporting the German Bhutan Himalaya Society, and strengthening parliamentary networks, will also include various networking events. These activities are intended to enhance understanding of and foster informed democratic practices in Bhutan and the broader South Asian region. The delegation will remain in Bhutan until 18 September 2024.
